Not everybody who enjoys good food and drink knows how to prepare, serve and appreciate it. "Gourmandise", being gluttony, always conjures up those ideas of rather large, normally spotty, or sweaty, ugly old men and women, who spend their lives stuffing things into their mouths.
We are warned at all corners of the problems which may present themselves if we continue with our excesses, warned normally by people who look to be suffering from "anexorism"
, but who have self-declared themselves to be amongst the healthiest on the planet.
Personally, I have much less desire to order and eat in a restaurant full of such people and with a chef who is rake thin in the kitchen. I prefer "fuller" figures, they say that "fuller" figures promise more "bonhomme-rie" and humour. Whether it is true or not I've never really investigated.
Of course there are limits, and any sane and responsible person knows them...............................
......True - sometimes it's difficult to stop, but the same problem applies itself to those suffering from anexorism.
I know personally which I prefer, and if this blog can help (in both cases) and give some ideas, then even better.
Just a little word about ALCOHOL on the blog.
I do not actively encourage anybody to get "smashed" - "binge drink" or anything else, I don't myself (I think I've developed a resistance) and it is true that people never see themselves when they're drunk.
People will drink, that's a fact, but they should be of an age to cope with it, and should be able to "arrange" their imbibing, to the profit of the atmosphere at table and to accentuate the dishes prepared and offered.
After all this blog is for Gourmets as well as Gourmands!
I was once told, in Rheims, that if one only drank champagne and nothing else, one could not get drunk! I doubt that very much, but I've never had the chance to try, my Bank Manager won't allow the experiment!
Google Docs makes it easy to create, store and share online documents, spreadsheets and presentations.
This is "the one that got away" - don't know why, but I got it back and now I'll try to publish it....! (Ed)
